Keitai Denwa

So, now we are back from our short trip to Hokkaido. We took together over thousand pictures. We drove more than 2000 km and climbed three mountains. A lot to tell and a lot of nice pictures to show, but you will have to wait a few days before we find the time to post everything.

For now let me briefly talk about something else. Just before the trip we bought ourselves prepaid mobile phones (Keitai Denwa).

At the Tokyo-Roppongi branch of one of the main 3 mobile phone companies the staff speaks fluently English, so after finding out about that we went there (30 min by subway). Two things peculiar to Japanese mobile phones are:

They all seem to be of the “Star Trek” type (i.e. the screen and the keys fold together, so you have to clap them open in order to make a call).

All phones have a tiny hole on the side where you can attach figures, beads etc. And everyone does so. Teenagers as well as businessmen and retired people. I put a little figure from a slot machine on mine to distinguish it from Chiara’s.
