Hongo Campus

Here are finally some pictures from the Tokyo University Hongo Campus. This is where Chiara and I work. I actually work here only part of the time, since the people working on BEP (beamed energy propulsion) are located in Kashiwa. My study is however more or less independent, so I can work on my own here.




Chiara’s LII (Laser Induced Incandescence) Experiment


Work hours here are slightly different from Europe. At the university the students arrive late (as in Germany), but they also do stay very long. The cafeteria serves dinner and the bigger student offices all have some place to sleep, a refrigerator and at least rudimentary cooking devices and/or a microwave. Since there are also showers somewhere nearby you can actually “live” here and it is not uncommon to stay over night. This may seem very diligent but in fact people here are also human, so most don’t spend the whole time working…
